Christmas Ornaments

Last year we started a family Christmas tradition – Advent Calendar & 1 tree ornament for each kid.

Nativity Scene

This year Daddy C want to add a Christmas village, I agreed but we won’t purchase a whole village in one go! He finally agreed, and we decided to buy a Nativity scene & mini Christmas Tree’s (we have 2! Daddy bought the green one because our “village” is too brown).

Christmas Story Advent Activity

LittleMan V was looking forward to his advent calendar gifts, I really didn’t like the idea that he only think about getting gifts so I had to look for a different activity. We want to teach him that this season is not just about receiving gifts, I searched the web and found something we can all do together – the Story of First Christmas. You too can get the story for Advent here, it’s still the 3rd day you can still make up for the two days you’ve missed.

Santa's Beard Advent Calendar

Every night before sleeping we read a snippet of the Christmas story. Our LittleMiss advent activity is very simple, with the help of Kuya V she adds a cotton ball to complete Santa’s beard.

A year with The Entertainer

We buy the big blue book of The Entertainer book every year.

Entertainer is a compilation of more than 1500 vouchers you can use to dine, have fun, relax and a whole lot more. Yes! you read that right a whole lot of vouchers similar to the one below.

Every time the MyNappytales family dine out we always check the big blue book for restaurants we can try. It has also made us try new places.

Our complain with this wonderful blue book is that it’s heavy to carry around (especially if you have a baby) when we go out and we sometimes lose pages.

Healthy Chicken Nuggets

I am guilty of feeding LittleMan V fast food and store bought chicken nuggets. He absolutely likes them and if given a chance to eat nuggets everyday he would.

I have tried several recipes for a healthy chicken nuggets and V would either complain that it was not soft (not like the ones from McDo) or just didn’t taste good enough for him. It has been more than a month or two since I stopped buying frozen store bought nuggets and how he miss having them for breakfast or snack.

Last week I prepared healthy chicken nuggets for his after school snack and he easily ate 8 pieces in one sitting and LittleMiss enjoyed them as well!

While planning for his school lunch, he once again requested that I prepare Mama’s healthy chicken nuggets.

Healthy Chicken Nuggets

Ingredients

1 lb cubed Chicken Breasts ( or Minced Chicken)
1 small Onion
2 medium Carrots
1 cup mashed Potato
1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 cup Bread Crumbs

Procedure

Preheat oven to 130C.

In a food processor blitz chicken breasts, onion, carrots, mashed potato, garlic, salt and pepper.

Scoop 1 tbsp of the mixture and shape them in squares roll in bread crumbs.

Bake for 25 minutes. Cool on rack and freeze.
* If you don’t have a food processor you can use minced chicken, grate carrots and onion then mix all the other ingredients using a spoon.

More than Frills & Pink Tutus

I grew up showered with girly toys – barbies, kitchen sets, carebears and cuddly stuffed toys. My boy cousins have bikes, race cars, and skateboards. I so wanted to learn how to ride a bicycle and skateboards but I was not allowed since it’s for boys (that’s according to my Aunt).

When Papa left us I started hating my barbie dolls and turned them to evil enemies of He-Man and She-Ra, my barbie dolls lost an arm and some their head!

Sometimes staying at home makes one Mom forget that we too have to take care of ourself.

In a day the one thing I do to make myself “pretty” is take a bath. Yes just that and yes sometimes I don’t even get to brush my hair. Every day I prioritize and make sure all house chores are done, kids & hubby fed 5x a day (snacks included), homework done, and kids are safe.

I subscribe to GlamBox as a reminder that I have to take care of me as well.

Sometimes putting on a bright red lipstick is enough to make one Mama pretty and happy.

Goodbye my Banker

“Neng, wala na si Bernard.”

A message I got from Kate.

My hands was shaking while trying to confirm the news. I tried calling his number but his mobile was turned off.

Bernard was my constant date and whenever I feel blue he was just a call away. He helped me organize Navidad party for Yuppeace – this is the time that we really bonded.

The night of the party he was so happy with his newly purchased Celio long sleeves only to find out that it looked like what the waiters wore. He insisted that he still stands out (from the waiters) because I was beside him.

Bernard is one of Vs GodParent. He insisted to sit in the front row during the baptism ceremony. He was part of my family.

Wednesday night Coy found old photos and videos of Yuppeace activities and we talked about Bernard. I told myself that I’ll call him the following day but I never did.

We always have lunch or sit down for coffee whenever we went home for vacation. This year he invited us to have lunch at his favorite restaurant in Marikina – Cafe Lydia. We didn’t bother to take any photo.

As we all walk to our cars and said goodbye I said ” Naks naman Pre! John Lloyd na John Lloyd porma mo ah!”

He replied with a laugh paused and gave me his sweet shy smile.

Lunch at Cafe Lydia with V, LittleMiss, daddy C and me is was the last happy memory my family have of him.

Typhoon Haiyan has caused so much pain to those who have been affected and it also has opened our eyes to what the Philippine government can and can’t do. Despite the heartbreak Haiyan has also brought out the goodness in every one.
