Christmas Buffet at Movenpick Hotel JLT

It may seem surprising but Christmas is widely celebrated here in Dubai, almost all establishments are adorned with festive decorations and Santa Claus make several appearance across the city. For many Filipinos this is also the time to reunite with relatives who they have not seen for a long time and a special day to remember the birth of Jesus Christ. As with any celebration expect a traditional feast that would require one to spend a few days of food prep and whole day in the kitchen. You can skip all and just enjoy the night away by spending Christmas eve or lunch at Movenpick Hotel Jumeirah Lake Towers. View this post on Instagram Our expat kids have been spending Christmas in Dubai for the past 6 years. My son can barely remember what Christmas is like back in the Philippines while LittleMiss only know of the celebrations we have here. They are not missing out on the Christmas festivities because all establishments here are adorned with lights and decorations. One Filipino activity we do yearly as …

Garlic and Herb Hassleback Potatoes from Spinneys

In the Philippines we celebrate Christmas season the longest, from September until January. Yes, by September Filipino families start decorating for the season, carols are played and countdown begins. My first Christmas dinner for 2016 happened last November 21 with Spinneys Dubai. It definitely kicked off festivities on a high note, Chef Mark and his team prepared a delicious spread of minced pies, turkey, roasted beef ribeye paired with yummy sides of stuffing, hasselback potatoes, vegetables and all the trimmings you could possible think off. Photo Credit: Spinneys Dubai We also got some tips and tricks on how to prepare a stress-free Christmas menu from Chef Mark Evans and lovely food presentation from Spinneys Food Magazine editors Amy and Emily. I am all for a stress-free Christmas menu preparation this year, no more spending long hours in the kitchen because I’m ordering some food lovingly prepared by the experts. With just 16 days till Christmas day, Spinneys is giving us the option skip the panic of shopping for ingredients with a variety of delectable treats like a whole crown turkey with …

Fabulous Festivities with The H Dubai

We are definitely in a Christmas mood after attending our first tree lighting ceremony and first Santa encounter this season at The H Dubai. I posted a video of the tree lighting in my instagram, you can view it here. Walk pass by the Christmas tree and you will see an edible gingerbread house, almost as tall as Kuya V.

Working on our Christmas Tradition

Welcome to the December #TrailingSpouseStories blog crawl! This December, we talk about the much anticipated and somehow dreaded, ultra sentimental Christmas holidays. How were the Christmas holidays outside your home country?  How is it similar and different?  What did you enjoy most spending Christmas abroad? Find out how we spend our holidays and how it feels to spend it in different corners of the globe, so don’t forget to read more stories of fellow trailing spouses at the end of this blog post. We have spent 4 Christmas’ here in Dubai, and I can say that we are getting better at making our own traditions each year. I initially thought that we won’t feel Christmas’ festivity here, since we are living in a Muslim country – I was wrong. Almost all establishments have decorations that would definitely put one in a holiday cheer. 2009 This year was supposed to be our first Christmas as an expat family but we decided to go home for the holidays.

New Christmas Tradition: Secret Society of Bubblers + Giveaway

I was looking for new activities for our advent calendar when I chanced upon The Secret Society of Bubbler’s last year (didn’t get to use it then because it was delivered 2 days before Christmas). One of the best things during this season is recapturing the magic of Christmas with our children. All the forgotten traditions becomes extra special and fun again – decorating tree, sending holiday cards and singing carols. What is The Secret Society of Bubblers? is a Christmas adventure kit that encourages kid’s imagination around the concept of kindness actively encourage kids to seek out opportunities to be extra kind. strives to promote kindness to combat bullying trend. teaches kids that being good is not just “not be naughty”, instead equate good to being kind

Hello December! 2013 Advent Calendar

Last year we started a family Christmas tradition – Advent Calendar & 1 tree ornament for each kid. This year Daddy C want to add a Christmas village, I agreed but we won’t purchase a whole village in one go! He finally agreed, and we decided to buy a Nativity scene & mini Christmas Tree’s (we have 2! Daddy bought the green one because our “village” is too brown). LittleMan V was looking forward to his advent calendar gifts, I really didn’t like the idea that he only think about getting gifts so I had to look for a different activity. We want to teach him that this season is not just about receiving gifts, I searched the web and found something we can all do together – the Story of First Christmas. You too can get the story for Advent here, it’s still the 3rd day you can still make up for the two days you’ve missed. Every night before sleeping we read a snippet of the Christmas story. Our LittleMiss advent activity is …
