Flamingos in Dubai

A sanctuary for wildlife tuck away in the middle of city lights and just beside a busy highway exist in Dubai. We finally visited the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary and it did not disappoint. We’ve never seen so many flamingos upclose and in the ‘wild’ too. Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary timings extend from 7:30am to 5:30pm during the winter season, and from 6am to 6pm between April to September (visitDubai.com). We drove to the sanctuary following this directions -> https://goo.gl/maps/8Xpe1ZU3hZJEpvXo7 but it can be accessible via metro too, stop at Creek Staion then grab a cab to get to the sanctuary. Entrance is FREE, visitors are asked to not consume any food and be quiet as to not disturb the birds.

Forscherwelt Dubai

Largest Research Science Lab in Dubai

A dedicated science laboratory for kids ages 7 yrs – 11 yrs old opened at Children’s City, Creek Park. Forscherwelt (Researchers World) is a project between Dubai Municipality’s Children’s City and Henkel. The new, purpose-build science centre is the first of its kind in the Middle East and is the largest Forcherwelt Science Lab for children anywhere in the world. I attended the inauguration last November 18 and was treated to a VIP tour of the facility. Reviewing base alone on what I saw and heard is not enough. The best way to showcase the center is through the eyes of my kids and their friends. I gathered 17 kids from our Phases Basketball family for an afternoon of science fun at Forscherwelt. The kids are in for a treat because they were among the first batch to experience working on the lab. For many children, it is a rare opportunity to do hands-on laboratory work. Science taught in schools are often more about memorizing formulas, looking at pictures, and listening to their teachers telling …

Sharjah Art Museum

Explore the Sharjah Art Museum

We finally got a chance to explore Sharjah which is the nations heritage capital. The Sharjah Art Museum is home to one of the largest exhibit in the Gulf region featuring Arab artists that made an important mark in the region. A first time for our family of to explore a museum. It was fascinating to watch and listen to the kids interpretation of the painting in front of them. They argued that the artist could have given the art piece a better title. Some had a long description behind the painting while a few of them made us wonder more how they came to be. Martyrs by Faisal Laibi Sahi (Iraq) is a favorite. Below are some of our favorite pieces. Chloe was drawn to colorful paintings while Kuya V liked landscapes and portraits. The visit definitely fueled the interest to explore more of Sharjah. Entrance to the museum is free and guided tour is available upon request. For more information, visit the Sharjah Art Museum website.

Burj Khalifa Souvenir Photo

A visit At The Top of Burj Khalifa

One of the things tourist look forward too when they arrive in Dubai is to see the tallest building in the world (2017) which is the Burj Khalifa. As expected when my Mama and Auntie Bing came to visit us this was one tourist request that was non negotiable. A second visit for the kids and I, we first went to the top last 2012 with my relatives from Australia. LittleMiss C was still 3 months old, she was just happy sleeping. We bought tickets online at burjkhalifa.ae and chose At the Top + Dubai Aquarium promotion that costs AED 185 per adult (12years +) and AED 155 per child (3 – 12 years) as of February 2017. The journey to the 124th floor of Burj Khalifa begins at At The Top reception located at the Lower Ground Level of Dubai Mall. We arrived 30 minutes before our scheduled time which was 8pm since a long queue is always expected. Arriving before your scheduled time will give you enough time to read all the information available; a series of photo on its construction with descriptions stating why …

Splashing Fun at LEGOLand Dubai Water Park

We found ourselves back at the grounds of Dubai Parks and Resorts after the opening of LEGOLAND Dubai to check out the newly opened LEGOLAND Water Park.   I don’t have lots of photos because Daddy C took charge in documenting our day at the water park. Without further chitchat here’s our Vlog.

LEGOLand Dubai: Our opening day experience

We were at the official opening day of LEGOLAND Dubai last October 31, 2016. The park is UAE’s first amusement place designed for families with children aged 2-12 years old. Before we reached LEGOLAND Dubai we had a lovely long walk along RIVERLAND but sadly not all of the establishments are open yet. First impression on ATTRACTIONS The park features 6 themed land – Miniland, LEGO City, Adventure, Kingdoms, Imagination and Factory. One obviously have a lot of ground to cover and a day might not be enough to fully enjoy the whole park. Miniland which is located at the center of the park and is sort of the gateway for the visitors to go through to visit other themed lands is beyond beautiful. It features mostly UAE’s landmarks like the buildings along Sheikh Zayed Road, Grand Mosque, Dubai Airport, Burj Khalifa with the fountain and my favorite Dubai Creek. The attention to detail is so impressive and they have added more by making some of features interactive. Go press a button and you will witness the Dubai Metro train speeding one stop …

Jebel Jais Mountain sunrise

Sunrise at Jebel Jais Mountain

We recently had a week long holiday here in Dubai to celebrate Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha. That was one week of no school for the kids and 5 days off for Daddy C. Our plan was to stay home and setup Christmas decorations. Carla of MyYellowbells invited us to join her family for a road trip to Jebel Jais Mountain. So we did. Four cars convoyed to the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah where UAE’s highest mountain is located. Jebel Jais Mountain stand tall at approximately 1900m above sea level and promises a scenic and rustic view of sunrise. We left Al Qusais at 3:30 am and arrived at 5:40 am, just before sunrise. No lights on the zigzag road going up so make sure your headlights are working fine and drive slowly. We stopped at the last camp site only to find out from other campers that the trail going up to the highest peak is close due to road construction. There was no available signs (as far as we know) on where …
