Wagamama

Noodles in any edible form is one family favorite. We celebrate birthday’s with pansit or pasta dish that symbolizes long life and we (Daddy C to be exact) need  some comforting we crave for some noodle soup and chocolate cake. Our close friend’s, the Cruz family,  invited us to Wagamama for some pre- Christmas celebration last year but it didn’t push through, Daddy C and I thought that it was just another Japanese restaurant in Dubai, we are loyal to our favorites – Tomo and Bentoya. We finally got a chance to dine at Wagamama at Al Fattan Tower, Jumeirah Beach Road. All of us were very hungry, stuck for almost 45 minutes and just a block away from the building. Browsing their online menu kept us busy (and hungry!), probably not the wisest decision but I want all of us to decide what to order so we don’t have to wait a long time for our food. The restaurant had a very relaxed atmosphere with long wooden tables that reminded me of school cafeteria only nicer. They already …

Panda Express

Our LittleMan has a list of favorite restaurants, most of them Asian simply because they serve good cooked white rice. As V would say “Food would just not taste good without white rice.” V declared Panda Express as one of his favorite restaurant to date, he went straight to the counter and ordered his favorites, Orange Chicken & Honey Walnut Shrimp paired with Fried Rice. He enjoyed every bite and we were even surprised that he ordered fried rice.

Launch of IHG Planet Trekkers Menu

I appreciate restaurants/establishments who goes out of the way to develop a healthy and yummy dish for children, it’s exciting to see something new from the usual nuggets and fries. InterContinental Hotels and Resorts invited us to the launch of their brand new Planet Trekkers menu, designed especially for children. A menu inspired by popular worldwide cuisine’s, developed by award winning chef Theo Randall and child food expert Annabel Karmel MBE. I’ve been (still) reading Annabel Karmel’s blog when I introduced solids to LittleMiss and for school snack ideas for LittleMan V. I was intrigued with what they have to offer, so off we went with the kids even though it was a weekday. I am very happy we did!

Themed Nights at Millennium Plaza Hotel + Giveaway

We were invited at the re-launch of Millennium Plaza Hotel’s Themed Nights in their Metro Cuisine Restaurant. Themed nights will feature array of food from Southeast Asia and Indian cuisines. Although Indian cuisine is widely available in Dubai and one of my closest friends is from Kerala – we always stick to the familiar food when dining out. My idea of Indian food is limited to papadams, buttered chicken, naan, dosa and Kerala style veggie stew.   We were spoilt with choices from appetizers to desserts – the buffet had live pakora and chaat stations. We browsed through the food choices and to my surprise no sight of buttered chicken! I asked our pleasant waiter Shajeev if there was indeed no buttered chicken in the menu and he said there was none. He suggested that I try the lamb and chicken curry instead.

Easter Brunch at JW Marriot Hotel

We celebrated Easter Sunday and our 7 yrs wedding anniversary at JW Marriot Hotel. Dad’s company was one of the few companies that was on holiday that day, we were fortunate to be able to hear mass and celebrate Easter with our closest friends. Most of the hotels here in Dubai had Easter brunch activity scheduled on a Saturday since Sunday is the start of work week here. We agreed to book an Easter brunch at The Market Place of JW Marriot Hotel. Brunch cost 300 Aed and we can use our Entertainer voucher of Buy 1 buffet and get 1 free, so that makes 150 each person, a good deal.

Boodle Fight at Blackbeard’s Seafood Island Grill

Few days before we left for Davao, Mama treated us to a boodle fight style of dining at Blackbeards Seafood Island located at Abreeza Mall. Boodle Fight is a military style of eating where long tables are prepared and food are on top of the banana leaves. Viands and rice ready to eat using your bare hands, jugs of water are prepared on the side to wash hands before the “eating combat”. With the signal to start the boodle fight, everyone aims for his/her position. – Urban Dictionary

Shakshouka – Baker & Spice

We found ourselves enjoying the view of Burj Khalifa early Saturday morning after hearing mass, while waiting for Baker & Spice to serve breakfast at 8 am. Kids amused themselves by taking photos, going up and down the stairs and waving to Dubai fountain cleaner. I’ll have Shakshouka please as soon as the waiter handed us the menu, he cheerful replied “which one, madam?” I look down on the menu,  I indeed had 3 choices on how I want my shakshouka – red, green and matbukha. I ordered Capuccino and the boys shared a cup of thick Mexican Hot Chocolate – the best hot chocolate we’ve had here in Dubai. Shakshouka Matbukha – 4 eggs poached on a homemade tomato and red peppers sauce with garlic, chili and olive oil. Four sunshiny egg goodness served with freshly baked farmhouse bread = a good morning indeed! We all enjoyed every bit of sauce. V who swears he doesn’t like tomatoes and peppers (I didn’t tell him dish consists of the mentioned ingredients) exclaimed that it’s one of …

Crab Festival at Chimes Far Eastern Restaurant

I’ve been to Singapore twice – first time was with my Uncle Dad and it was also the first time that I got to taste the famous Chili Crabs it was so good! My 2nd trip was with my boys (LittleMan V and Daddy C) sadly during this trip we didn’t get the chance to enjoy them crabs. Mud crab is not widely available in our local Dubai market, it’s one of the things I miss from my hometown-Davao. I grew up having a seafood feast every weekend which my whole clan enjoys. A simple steamed garlic crab dish eaten with rice using our hands and ice cold Coke just makes me so so happy!
