Afternoon Tea Party with MamaKnowsDubai

We attended our first tea party last Sunday held at Millennium Airport Hotel hosted by MamaKnowsDubai. My family look forward to events organized/hosted by Kellie – Chief Mama of MamaKnowsDubai, she always make us feel welcome with her cheerful smile. Our first one was cineMama event held at Mercato. The weather was perfect that afternoon cool breeze and a little sunshine to keep us warm. V had fun with the kids on the bouncy castle while Chloe was happy sitting on the grass with a cookie. Every bite was yummy – Millennium Airport Hotel I also got to meet Leslie of BuckleUpDubai and Julia of http://www.juliawhalephotography.com/ who took photos that afternoon. Chatted and shared a smile with other moms as well, I hope to see them again on the next event. It was refreshing to enjoy the afternoon talking to other moms and just forget about house chores and what to cook for dinner. Looking forward to the next event with MamaKnowsDubai Hop on & bookmark MamaKnowsDubai for fun activities the whole family will surely …

How to Renew Philippine Passport in Dubai

V and I went to the Philippine Consulate this morning to renew our passports. Mine expired this month and V due to expire on November. Arrived at 7am to queue, Dad C was in line for us while the kids and I stayed in the car. Around 5 minutes to 8 am the line for passport application was escorted inside the consulate, this time Kuya V was with Dad. After 15 minutes Dad C called me to go inside the consulate, our passports were processed first since Kuya V (5 years old) was with us after 30 minutes we were done! Yes we may have experienced a fast smooth process because Kuya V was with me, but I do believe that the Consulate is trying their best to accommodate everyone the best they can. Some tips to ease application woes: Check when your passport will expire, and take note of it. (If Dad C didn’t buy our tickets for June I wouldn’t have known that my passport will expire this year. Book and appointment, you …

Just like daddy

Most kids living in UAE get stuck playing indoors with all the gadgets available to them, that’s why we encourage V to do some extra activities. We first enrolled him to take karate lessons but he didn’t enjoyed it and beg us to stop. C found out about the Filipino Youth Basketball League from the referee of their game, we asked V if he wants to play basketball with a happy face he replied “I want to play basketball like my Daddy.”  He just finished his 2nd season of basketball league and he has improved a lot from the 1st season. Every Saturday he looks forward to spending time with Daddy – both of them head off after breakfast to his league and his Dad patiently waits for 2 hrs. While eating they talk about basketball moves and spend quality time browsing shoes (I hope he doesn’t collect shoes like his dad) Parents cheered for the final game V’s team the Falcons led on the first quarter but Might Tigers worked hard and won 1st …

Emergency Pediatric Response Course

As parents we try to do our best for our children. Provide them the best care and safe environment. One of our ultimate goal is to keep them healthy and safe at all times.   When I had V my sister Bernadette who is a nurse stayed with us and supervised over V’s nanny whenever I’m in the office. One of the things that she did was teach V’s nanny basic things on what to do in an emergency, I myself really didn’t bother learning any well since my sister was with me at all times. We moved to Dubai no more Tita B to help me out with V, it was just me, Vierte and Daddy C.   Being a mum (a parent) you have a lot of what if’s…What if my newborn fall from the bed? What if my baby chokes? What if my kid drowns? What if my child stops breathing?   In case of emergency, are you ready? My answer: No, I’m not ready.   One sad incident happened in one …

Drowning in dirty clothes

We are a family of four and I have to our dirty clothes everyday and I still can’t keep up. I was almost in tears when my ever reliable 4 year old washing machine gave me 7 blinks (telling me that something is wrong), the handy mommy in me walk to my husband’s tools took the long nose pliers and cleaned the filter. Turned it on and it gave me a loud chug. My usual fix didn’t do the fixing! Patiently I waited for the service guys to come only to deliver the sad news that they have to take my friend back to the warehouse and replace the motor. I feel so helpless my friend is leaving me (for a while) I don’t really know how to wash clothes by hand and don’t have the time to do so with a demanding baby in my arms.  Since we are celebrating the Eid holidays I have to wait for 6 days till she comes back home. I’m drowning in dirty clothes and stinky cloth diapers! …

Preparing for your child’s Baptism in Dubai

*Please visit St. Mary’s Catholic Church website for any changes. September 6 marked one of the important event in our lives, our daughter Chloe Isabelle received the Sacrament of Baptism at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. We were absolutely clueless on what are the procedures in having our daughter baptized here. Basic information on what you need to do is available here but I wanted to talk to someone who actually had it done here. Luckily my friend Lanie had their daughter Elise baptized here, so there I was bugging her everyday. Today I’m sharing with you what procedures/steps we did to have our child Baptized here in Dubai. 1) Attend Baptism preparation seminar. Visit church website for any changes. The Baptism preparation seminar is held on the Second Friday of every month from 8.30 am till 10.00 am in the mini hall. Parents and God-parents MUST attend this seminar before requesting Baptism for their child. It is recommended that parents attend the seminar before the birth of their child. (as of June 2014) You don’t need to get prior registration …

At The Top

We have finally reached the top of Burj Khalifa! For months now I’ve been planning my Nanay Lynda’s visit here in Dubai. We’ve been emailing back and forth on what they want to do. A little background Nanay Lyn is my mom’s best friend. They argue (& cry) at the same time shouting at each other and laugh like there’s no tomorrow. Nanay, her kids and husband Uncle Lee are basically family to us. I like having family or friends visiting Dubai because it also give’s us a chance to be a tourist in a city we have learned to love and consider home. First day highlight is to visit The Top of Burj Khalifa. I’ve purchased our ticket a week before they arrived which advisable since you get it cheaper than buying the ticket the day. Buying ticket online cost 100Dhs while the immediate entry ticket cost 400Dhs. You can view the cost and reserve tickets here.     You have an option to buy a viewing card you can use for the telescope. …

Baby Bump Update: 36 Weeks & countdown begins

As I’ve said on the previous post we are now doing a scheduled C-Section on the 26th of June. That’s exactly 14 days from now.   I’m moving slow as a turtle this days and occasionally experience nausea and migraines but of course I still have active days where I get a lot of things done in the house. I’ve had the urge to scrub every knob and corner of our flat, it’s I think what they call nesting.   Our (baby and I) hospital bag is ready, prepared it weeks ago but I have to repack again after reading some tips on packing a practical hospital bag. I’ll share it here soon.   Breads yes bread, I’ve been craving for home baked ones and since most of my mom-friends aren’t fond of making one I decided to make some for us. Last week I made Sticky Cinnamon Rolls from the FoodNetwork website and oh boy was it yummy! You can get the recipe here.   V has been really clingy, he kept on …
