HK Trip: Avenue of the Stars

Avenue of the stars, our last stop for our 1st day.   I didn’t particularly enjoy that night since it was raining, crowded street, and hungry grumpy babies with us. I took a deep breathe, paused for a while and started appreciating the beautiful Victoria Harbour. V didn’t understand the hullabaloo in taking photos with the street stars but he obliged as per our request. V with Tita Ninang Crist. We didn’t appreciate the light because it was raining. If we get the chance to go back, I would rather visit the place before sunset.

HK Trip: Tian Tan Buddha

*This is a part of a series of posts about our 2013 vacation in Hong Kong” Last year we enjoyed a 5 days vacation at Hong Kong with Daddy C’s side of the family. It was a first family vacation, all of Daddy C’s siblings were present along with kids and spouses which really made Mama Let (MIL) very happy. I have already blogged on the food we enjoyed along Nathan Road, where our hotel was located. Tita Crist (Daddy C’s younger sister) planned our HK itinerary, every detail of it – where to buy our Octopus card and what train or bus to take to reach our destination. Octopus card is a handy card you can use to get your way around Hong Kong. Almost all means of public transportation accepts this card. Once you reach airport don’t buy the card one of the vending machines, instead look for the special kiosk near the exit to the express train and buy your card, much more cheaper and easier for tourists you just need to show …

Food we ate along Nathan Road

One will never go hungry along Nathan Road, Hong Kong. Sharing with you some snaps of food we enjoyed during our 5 days stay. Gong Cha – We ordered Taro and Black Tea. C and I thinks that it needs a little more flavor and sweetness, but it might be just us asking the wrong mix? They speak very little English we had to give our order fast (long queue behind us).  Almost everyone walking with us had this particular bubble tea in hand. Food Corner – Located just a block away from our hotel this food stall was a busy one, they had siomai, fish balls, beef tripe, pork innards, octopus meat and a whole lot more.    V’s favorite food place along Nathan Road.  We had a long walk to reach Nathan Congee & Noddle place for breakfast.   I ordered Congee with Pork Liver  a complimentary sweet bread in every table  Hubby C ordered Beef Noodles Food on Stick – We passed by this place and it had a long queue which tempted us …

Fun Flight: Mess Free Food

In exactly one month we are off to our summer vacation, ohh the thought of spending time with our family back home is relaxing. Before that I have to pack for a family of four; clothes, some toys, pasalubongs, and of course food. I am looking for a mess free food I can pack for the kids (5 yo V and 11 mos LittleMiss). V is not happy with airline food and almost always end up eating cookies I’ve packed for him. LittleMiss on the other hand have me as her milk supply but she still needs to eat something else. This time though I want to pack something healthy for them. Here are some mess free food both V and LittleMiss enjoy eating   Aside from this dry food, I want to bring some baby food for LittleMiss but then will the airline allow me to bring one? On one of our grocery trip to Spinneys I noticed this baby food packaged in a tetra squeeze pack, now that is mess free! I bought Organic …

Preparing for our flight

We are counting 43 days till our annual vacation back home, I am excited and a little stress out thinking about it. This is the first time I’m travelling with 2 kids- Kuya V 5 years old and LittleMiss C 11 months. I’m reading on tips on how to keep them busy and make our flight fun. I do want to avoid the stares of fellow passengers when the LittleMiss starts to cry; those look of “What kind of Mom are you?”  and “Can you not do something to make your baby happy?” Kuya V was 1 yr and 3 months when we travelled from PH to DXB, but he was a happy baby who only wants to sleep, cuddle and breast feed, well he did cry 10 minutes before landing. I’m not worried much on how to entertain V, he’s happy with his Ipad games and movies. LittleMiss C on the other hand doesn’t like to stay in one place, the longest time she stayed happy inside the playpen was 30 minutes.  I am …

At The Top

We have finally reached the top of Burj Khalifa! For months now I’ve been planning my Nanay Lynda’s visit here in Dubai. We’ve been emailing back and forth on what they want to do. A little background Nanay Lyn is my mom’s best friend. They argue (& cry) at the same time shouting at each other and laugh like there’s no tomorrow. Nanay, her kids and husband Uncle Lee are basically family to us. I like having family or friends visiting Dubai because it also give’s us a chance to be a tourist in a city we have learned to love and consider home. First day highlight is to visit The Top of Burj Khalifa. I’ve purchased our ticket a week before they arrived which advisable since you get it cheaper than buying the ticket the day. Buying ticket online cost 100Dhs while the immediate entry ticket cost 400Dhs. You can view the cost and reserve tickets here.     You have an option to buy a viewing card you can use for the telescope. …

Daring Bakers Challenge: Croissants and Papa’s Promise

Paris was my childhood dream destination. Whenever someone talks about France I always have Papa’s picture with the Eiffel Tower on the background on my mind. Paris was my Papa’s last business trip before he left for heaven, and I held on to his promise that someday I would see the beautiful tower. I logged in to the Daring Kitchens forum to check what was the challenge and for this month’s challenge its describe as Fresh, Fluffy, French … this challenge had me at French! And I was right, we are making Croissants. Every time we buy a pack of chocolate croissants at C4 I always tell my bana C that I want to try and make one but of course you know me and my long list of must bake. That’s why I was very excited to start making them (I waited till deadline week!) but then reading the very looong procedure was a bit of a turn off. To my surprise making them was quite easy, only the waiting was painful as preparation took almost …

1 more sleep and we’re on vacation! I’ve been busy making list of things we need to bring: travel documents, hotel reservations, medical papers, government records, and emergency numbers.  Clothes – done. Now what else? Stay safe everyone!
