a short trip to outerspace

Went to MICC this afternoon to watch a sneak preview of Barney’s OuterSpace adventure show to be held this weekend here in Dubai. I’ve been joining competition to hopefully win us tickets and surprise little V.  We arrived around 5 in the afternoon and the floor was packed with moms and kids waiting for every little one’s purple friend. Luckily V and I found a good spot and took our place (sitting on the floor) singing along to familiar Barney songs. After 10 minutes V started asking where Barney is now and how long does he need to wait. 20 minutes…30 minutes…still no purple dinosaur in sight.  Some parents have been finding ways to squeeze their little one in the crowd, giving instructions (well more of shouting) to go walk till they reach the front. Which I think is just st***d! The little girl politely saying “excuse me” and looking back to her mom asking “it’s ok here?”, mom replies “Go to the front” (another mom beside me translated for us). Why would you ask …

Bye-bye Bottle Nanan

In four months little V will start kindergarten. We have been slowly preparing him for the big day since he turned two years old. He was potty trained and completely weaned off breastfeeding before we celebrated his 2nd birthday. It was a full dreadful drama month with V (and me) crying whenever he pleaded to breastfeed and me about to lose my patience cleaning after every pee accident. All of those is a thing of the past and V would refer to those memories as “when I was a baby.”He’s a little boy now and it’s once again time to let go of something – toddler cup.  I would know that he’s tired and sleepy when he asks for a “bottle-nanan” this is also what he asks for upon waking up. “Nanan” by the way is breastmilk or bottle milk, it’s not a Filipino word but something we just came up with. V would wake me up at 3am and ask for a bottle nanan and some nights he would sleep without having one. C calls …

Egg Morning

I love mornings. I have my quiet time while preparing breakfast @ 5:30am. Enjoying the early morning music of boiling water for my coffee.  Fresh brewed coffee makes me start my day with a smile on my face. C and I get to enjoy quality time eating breakfast. Talking about what his day will be and me asking and planning dinner with him. It’s just breakfast and we’re talking about what to eat for dinner. Today’s breakfast I prepared Garlic Fried Rice, Sunny-side-up Egg, and Ham. All fried in my trusty wok.  Filipinos love a heavy breakfast and would almost always require an egg. We have a lot of “*silog” breakfast menu: TapSilog – beef tapa, LongSilog – longganisa (sweet pork sausage) , BangSilog (daing na bangus), HamSilog (ham). *”Silog” stands for Sinangag na Kanin (Fried Rice) and Itlog (Egg). If you have notice we use the first 3 letters of the main meat that goes along rice and egg. How do you crack your eggs? I used to crack my egg on the side of a bowl or …

SuperBook – A Giant Adventure

I grew up watching SuperBook and The Flying House with my siblings and we enjoyed it a lot. Last night after watching our movie, V requested that we watch his movie so we decided to watch SuperBook – A Giant Adventure (C copied it from his officemate). It was a familiar story to V since its one of his favorite story from “Bedtime Book of Bible Stories.” Whenever we read a story to him we try to use different voices for the characters. I think the story became his favorite because of the giants voice his daddy use. Thank you to CBN for bringing back the series. Visit the official website of Superbook for more details and play some games with your little one too.

It’s my birthday today! Dino Cupcake

There’s a cake on the table and V declares “It’s my birthday today!” My demanding little customer with Debbie Brown’s “50 Easy Party Cakes” sat on the carpet flipping pages deciding on the cake design he want. V: I know! I want a dinosaur cake. Can we make it now? I will help. M: I will try my best to make you one. V: You can do it Mama. Meet V’s dino cupcake 🙂 I’m using a new fondant recipe suggested by my friend Sandy. I just have a little problem with the fondant it easily breaks when shaped or rolled and it’s way too oily compared to the usual MMF. I’m asking help online hopefully I get advise on how to fix the problem. *** and btw we are not celebrating any birthday we just happen to have a cake coz it’s the time of the month that my hormones go crazy!

Stay at Home Mom not an easy job after all.

Deciding to quit my corporate job 2 years ago was an easy decision. I want to Vierte to grow up with his Dad around and I don’t want to continue having to worry about unanswered calls and messages. Friends would say that I will have sort of an easy life being out of the busy life of an 8hr job. I thought so too…but boy they were wrong! Days come and go and I would think that I have not accomplished much and definitely a few “me” time that would most often times lead to an hour or so of drama. My housework starts at… 530am – prepare breakfast and packed lunch 630am – have lovely breakfast chat with C  700am – clean up kitchen, C off to work 800am – house cleaning (if V’s still asleep) 900am – V have his breakfast1000am – get back to cleaning while V watches his cartoons1100am – V bath time, playtime with him, read books1200pm – prepare lunch (V and I usually have left over meat and grilled veggies)0100pm – clean kitchen, clean bathroom and …
