GlamBox November

Sometimes staying at home makes one Mom forget that we too have to take care of ourself. In a day the one thing I do to make myself “pretty” is take a bath. Yes just that and yes sometimes I don’t even get to brush my hair. Every day I prioritize and make sure all house chores are done, kids & hubby fed 5x a day (snacks included), homework done, and kids are safe. I subscribe to GlamBox as a reminder that I have to take care of me as well. Sometimes putting on a bright red lipstick is enough to make one Mama pretty and happy.

Car seat outbursts

This is not the usual cutie patootie posts about our LittleMiss. I don’t drive so I always sit at the back with the kids, C and I find the seating arrangement convenient so I can attend to whatever request V and LittleMiss needs (water, food, tissue, breastfeed – yes I’ve found a way to feed LittleMiss while both of us are buckled in the back). We bought V his car seat when he was around 3 years old and he never had a meltdown while seated. LittleMiss however started fighting getting strapped on to her car seat, carrier and stroller at 11 months. Most of the time I give in and end up letting her sit in my lap. Why? She starts crying, screaming and vomiting that we end up not having a fun family day. Once she ended having a mild fever from her car seat outburst from Al Qusais to Dubai Mall. Photos below taken while we were waiting for Dad C to come back. As soon as I put her down this happens. …

World Breastfeeding Week 2013

Happy Breastfeeding Week! All milking mama’s Breastfeeding week starts today till August 7. Here in Dubai though we celebrate it in November because the country observes Ramadan this month. LittleMiss turned 13 months and still breastfeeding. I weaned V from the breast weeks before he turned 2 years old, this time though I have no plans of weaning her by that age. I would like to thank my MIL for staying with us when I gave birth and for my husband C for the support and always cheering that we can do it. Thank you also to Breastfeeding Q&A UAE Group for the listening, advise and stories that accompanied me on the wee hours while I feed my baby. Breastfeeding in Public

You are sitting in a cafe enjoying a cup of coffee when suddenly you overheard someone asking a mother to breastfeed her child somewhere else because that person thinks its inappropriate and disgusting. What would you do? Sian from our UAE breastfeeding group posted the following videos conducted by abcnews.com on how customers in a cafe reacted to the situation. Breastfeeding an infant in public. Breastfeeding a toddler in public. I am very happy that UAE is a breastfeeding friendly country. I have breastfed Vierte when he was a toddler and now Chloe who is 11 months, in public with and without a cover and I haven’t had a bad experience. Some malls and establishments here have dedicated baby rooms where a mom can breastfeed her baby. On the Breastfeeding Q&A UAE Facebook group, the most common question asked for new expat families is whether they can breastfeed in public. Here’s an excerpt from Sian’s article on breastfeeding in public. The great news is that both Islam and UAE society are in favor of breastfeeding …

Chloe Isabelle – 11 months

Entering her 11 month a tooth has popped out, and this week just before we say goodbye to May a new one is coming out. She’s no longer happy just sitting in one place, you will find her strolling around the house. We didn’t buy her a walker and she still managed to find a way to walk 🙂 with the help of chairs and tables. She’s still very much happy drinking from my breast milk station and I don’t have any plans to stop. At 11 months she’s still a happy EBF babe. Hello pearly whites! A month before we celebrate her birthday we welcome 2 pearly whites.

Fun Flight: Mess Free Food

In exactly one month we are off to our summer vacation, ohh the thought of spending time with our family back home is relaxing. Before that I have to pack for a family of four; clothes, some toys, pasalubongs, and of course food. I am looking for a mess free food I can pack for the kids (5 yo V and 11 mos LittleMiss). V is not happy with airline food and almost always end up eating cookies I’ve packed for him. LittleMiss on the other hand have me as her milk supply but she still needs to eat something else. This time though I want to pack something healthy for them. Here are some mess free food both V and LittleMiss enjoy eating   Aside from this dry food, I want to bring some baby food for LittleMiss but then will the airline allow me to bring one? On one of our grocery trip to Spinneys I noticed this baby food packaged in a tetra squeeze pack, now that is mess free! I bought Organic …

What are you Mom?

Conversation with V before afternoon nap V: “Mom, what are you?” M: “What do you mean?” V: “Mom like when my friend said that her Mommy is a dentist. How about you what are you?” M: “I’m your super Mommy. A stay at home Mom” V: “No! What do you like when you grow up?” (upset with my answer) M: “My work before was helping people in the office with computer and internet problems” V: “I mean now Mama! I want you to be something else like T’s Mama is a dentist. I want you to be something also.” (By this time he’s already crying while repeating “I want you to be something else too”) I too cried. I’m really not sure why I did but I imagined him having a chat with his classmates with most of them having working moms and he doesn’t have anything to say on what his Mum do. V gets upset when he doesn’t have anything to say about something. So I told him that being a SAHM is …

Product Review – Eucalyptus Salve & Essential Oil

It’s been 3 months of homeophathy for me and ever since I’ve been trying to slowly change our food intake and products that we use.  I’m really happy that I  discovered a new group in facebook – UAE Natural Family Living Network, discussions on natural remedies, healthier food choices and where to buy organic products are a few stuff we talk about.   Last Wednesday (Feb 6) LittleMiss C started to have colds, the go to remedy I usually do is to rub Vicks VapoRub on the feet then cover with socks and some on the shirt, but then I learned from the group that Vicks is not for kids under two (unless you have the product Vicks BabyRub) . To read more why parents should avoid using it on kids under two click here. A natural remedy is to use eucalyptus essential oil buy putting a drop on your humidifier or burning eucalyptus essiantial oil to clear up clogged nose.   On a trip to Sahara Centre to register my Etisalat SimCard we pass …
