Christmas Buffet at Movenpick Hotel JLT

It may seem surprising but Christmas is widely celebrated here in Dubai, almost all establishments are adorned with festive decorations and Santa Claus make several appearance across the city. For many Filipinos this is also the time to reunite with relatives who they have not seen for a long time and a special day to remember the birth of Jesus Christ. As with any celebration expect a traditional feast that would require one to spend a few days of food prep and whole day in the kitchen. You can skip all and just enjoy the night away by spending Christmas eve or lunch at Movenpick Hotel Jumeirah Lake Towers. View this post on Instagram Our expat kids have been spending Christmas in Dubai for the past 6 years. My son can barely remember what Christmas is like back in the Philippines while LittleMiss only know of the celebrations we have here. They are not missing out on the Christmas festivities because all establishments here are adorned with lights and decorations. One Filipino activity we do yearly as …

Wagamama

Noodles in any edible form is one family favorite. We celebrate birthday’s with pansit or pasta dish that symbolizes long life and we (Daddy C to be exact) need  some comforting we crave for some noodle soup and chocolate cake. Our close friend’s, the Cruz family,  invited us to Wagamama for some pre- Christmas celebration last year but it didn’t push through, Daddy C and I thought that it was just another Japanese restaurant in Dubai, we are loyal to our favorites – Tomo and Bentoya. We finally got a chance to dine at Wagamama at Al Fattan Tower, Jumeirah Beach Road. All of us were very hungry, stuck for almost 45 minutes and just a block away from the building. Browsing their online menu kept us busy (and hungry!), probably not the wisest decision but I want all of us to decide what to order so we don’t have to wait a long time for our food. The restaurant had a very relaxed atmosphere with long wooden tables that reminded me of school cafeteria only nicer. They already …

Ahl AlMandi Restaurant

We’ve been walking pass our nearby Mandi restaurant but haven’t tried the food yet. It was my friend Diane and his husband that invited us for dinner to their favorite Al Mandi restaurant which to our surprise was the same restaurant just two blocks away from where we live. The serving was huge, one order is enough for us family of three. A week after our first Mandi dinner we had a craving for it again.     As much as I wanted to enjoy the food on the Arabic Majlis area my bulging preggy tummy won’t allow me so we settled ourselves on the tables of the dining hall. Our smiling server laid a plastic table cover and asked for our order and laid a plate of green leafy veggies and a salsa kind of dip/sauce.   On our second visit we decided to try Grilled King Fish Mandi which was perfectly grilled still juicy inside. The king fish was just not huge but a thick cut as well.   And we had some …

Sino Chai

November 2015 Update A good news! Our favorite restaurant has re-opened at Business Bay under the new name Taipei Dao Teahouse Restaurant & Café. Visit facebook page here. *** A sad update from Sino Chai After a glorious run of several years, Sino Chai will no longer be serving it’s customers after 31st January, 2014. We thank you all for being a part of this tremendous journey with us – all this would not have been possible without your amazing support and encouragement. *** Whenever we crave for a good dim sum, C and I always choose to eat at Sino Chai. It’s a plus that on weekends they have an eat-all-you-can dim sum. C opted to order Fried Rice with Sweet & Sour Chicken while V and I shared the dim sum. The server asked if we preferred any dim sum to be served to us and since we can’t decide I asked to try one of each dim sum available.   This Chives Pancake is one of V’s favorite. Crunchy but doesn’t feel oily.   Before I forget the eat …
