Minions Chicken Nuggets Bento Lunch Box

A few weeks back I worked on a bento lunchbox workshop, the goal was to turn three boring grocery food –  nuggets, sausages & chicken popcorn to something that is more inviting and fun to look at. You first eat with your eyes. I hate to admit it but when given a choice between my homemade chicken nuggets to store bought ones, my children almost always prefer the latter because of it’s crunchy outside texture. Yes, I give in and buy the frozen ones in the grocery for those days that I don’t have the energy. We love Minions! Looking at Bob, Kevin and Stuart’s funny faces automatically brightens up a tough day. Agree? I made use of sliced cheese and nori sheets to make the minion face. This is LittleMiss’s first Valentines Day where she is aware that it is a special day to express your love. Last week, Kuya V handed me a Valentines card and this made LittleMiss sad that it prompted her to ask (while crying) “How about me, Kuya?” We lied and said that it was for her too. This made her happy. “I love you, Kuya! Happy Valentines Day.” Later that night she asked me to help her tell Daddy about Valentines day. We showed Daddy the card Kuya V made for us. “Daddy, you will give me flowers and chocolate hearts on Valentines.” She woke up with a red rose and kiss from Daddy. 2016 Bento Week: January 3 – 7

Hello 2016! I’m back to preparing baon for my happy crazy bunch. I hope this will help and inspire you to pack lunch. Sunday It’s the first day back to school after the winter break. Fried chicken was baked the night before and the steamed rice prepared that morning. LittleMiss starts FS1 in her new school. I wanted to prepare something that will make her smile while she’s in school. She was crying when I left her but was very happy when I picked her up after class. Thankful that her schoolmates made her feel happy. Kuya V was excited to see his friends. It’s going to be a busy month for us since we are preparing for his term 1 exams. How I wish they stuck with the exam schedules we had last school year, it was less stressful for all of us. Monday The night before we bought bread from Ceasars Bakeshop for baon. Yes, I know another banana base recipe. We love them. It’s affordable and you can use it in a lot of things – smoothies, ice cream and pastries. I have a bottle of Crunchy Biscoff that’s going to expire in two months, the kids are over the biscoff cravings so I’m finding creative ways to use them. I have a lot of zebra ripe bananas, compared to other recipes we have here this recipe make use of more bananas which makes it yummier. I ladle about two cups of batter and add biscoff then top it off with banana slices and repeat till your pan is 3/4 full. Looking at the biscoff swirls made so happy, I imagined how pretty it would look when we slice the bread. But… The swirls were not obvious when I sliced the bread. Unless you look at each slice closely will you see the biscoff swirls, it will be a different story with nutella spread. Swirls gone but bread is moist and bursting with banana goodness. We love minions. The LittleOnes are crazy about them, after watching the latest Minion movie they spent a few days talking like minion Bob and Stewart. Mini Minions Tamagoyaki (Egg Rolls), steamed rice, fried dumplings, fruits and pretzels   Open face cheese sandwich, edible pen was use to draw a minion face. Easy Halloween Themed School Lunch

It’s the last week of October which can only mean that preparations for Halloween is on a roll. We prepared some school lunches to celebrate this month’s festivities. Scary Bat Lunch I have been using a lot of nori sheets to add fun in Kuya V’s school lunch. For our first lunch I cut out a bat out of a single nori sheet, placed on top a fried rice and use ketchup for the eyes. We then paired it with deli meat designed with some wakame seaweed and lettuce, pretzel sticks, orange slices and chocolate.   Ghost and Scary Cat Pizza I use a Halloween themed cookie cutter for this lunch. Get a piece of bread and flatten it with a rolling pin then use your cookie cutter to get the shape you want. Spread a pizza sauce, it can be store bought or left over pasta sauce or a mix of ketchup + sugar + pepper + grated carrots then top it mozzarella cheese. Toast bread on your oven or frying pan till cheese completely …

Kuya V’s 8th Birthday

Last week, our eldest Kuya V turned 8 years old and this year we all decided not to organize a party, instead he asked that we do several things he really liked. His birthday weekend coincided with the Islamic New Year which meant we had Thursday till Saturday to celebrate. First thing to do on the list is play and have picnic at the beach. We did just that with our Filipino blogging family here in Dubai. Bbq, games with friends and cake! A wheelboard – We know that he really likes one but it’s too expensive and I find it dangerous. Luckily, I won an instagram competition hosted by Fun City – come, play! He can use the board indoors and always wearing a helmet.
