Baby Bump Update: 36 Weeks & countdown begins

As I’ve said on the previous post we are now doing a scheduled C-Section on the 26th of June. That’s exactly 14 days from now.   I’m moving slow as a turtle this days and occasionally experience nausea and migraines but of course I still have active days where I get a lot of things done in the house. I’ve had the urge to scrub every knob and corner of our flat, it’s I think what they call nesting.   Our (baby and I) hospital bag is ready, prepared it weeks ago but I have to repack again after reading some tips on packing a practical hospital bag. I’ll share it here soon.   Breads yes bread, I’ve been craving for home baked ones and since most of my mom-friends aren’t fond of making one I decided to make some for us. Last week I made Sticky Cinnamon Rolls from the FoodNetwork website and oh boy was it yummy! You can get the recipe here.   V has been really clingy, he kept on …

Making the Perfect Cup of Coffee at Home

Remember the wedding cake that kept my kitchen busy for several weeks? That final wedding week my friend Diane and I had a breather when we attended an exclusive bloggers event hosted by IICBT called The art of making coffee.  Diane is my guest for today to talk about our wonderful coffee morning experience … *** No beverage makes me happier than a hot cup of coffee.   It doesn’t matter what type of coffee it is, whether it’s a really fancy cup or just your good old instant 3-in-1 sachet, I would be satisfied for sure. Imagine my delight when my good friend and baking teacher, Abigail, invited me to an event called, “Making the Perfect Cup of Coffee at Home”.   The event was limited to a few people, making it more interactive and fun. We were greeted by our speaker with a cup of coffee of our choice, specially ground and made by her. I chose to have a cappuccino, which was surprisingly sweet enough even without powdered sugar. That cup of fabulous coffee …

Rockstar for a day

We bought some stuff at GAP  when the cashier informed us of the GAP Rockstar event at Mercato. When V heard the word rockstar he immediately declared he wants to go.   April 14 came and we headed off to one of our my favorite mall Mercato. The organizers asked us to line-up the only problem with this was no one from GAP was there to look after the line and it was quite chaotic with some parents arguing over who was there first.     Finally after spending 40 minutes waiting it was V’s turn to have his rockstar make-over. He had wanted his hair up with colors sprayed on them like the other kids before him. All the time he was looking at this 2 yr old (I think) boy who was crying his lungs out while one of the ladies tried to fix his hair who wanted to give up already but the Mama insisted/instructed that she put more gel here and spray more colors. By this time you could here …

Pullman MOE Easter Brunch

It’s our anniversary month and since our day falls on a school night we decided to celebrate early at Pullman’s Easter Brunch. This was also our first brunch experience.   Back home you’ll either see restaurant offers for either breakfast, lunch or dinner buffet not brunch. Yes we Filipinos love to eat a full meal three times a day (sometimes 5 if you include a snack time).   How do you prepare for brunch?   Brunch was from 12 noon to 4 pm, eating straight for 4 hours! C and I prepared for this 4 hour meal by skipping our usual breakfast and opted to just have some bread. V on the other hand upon hearing Easter was excited for egg hunts (which we haven’t done yet), easter bunny and eating a whole lot of candy.   With an empty stomach and excited toddler we arrived at Pullman MOE around 12:30 and was comfortably seated 5 (big) steps away from the Chocolate Room.   We looked around the buffet spread and noticed the abundance of …

Bu Qtair

I finally got to try one of the food joints Anthony Bourdain featured when he visited Dubai – Bu Qtair. We arrived at 7:45pm, luckily the line wasn’t that long and we were able to place our orders by 8:10pm. Ordered half a kilo shrimps and large size fish (the medium size the man showed us was too small) and V requested “not spicy please” During that time the line was already way too long. You have to wait in the right side of the restaurant (they have stools), they don’t let you sit with the table while you’re still waiting for your food. Finally by 8:45pm we were called our food was ready. Ordered additional plate of rice (for V) and 3 paratha’s. The server also gave us some vinegar. These were yummy and still slightly spicy even after we requested them to wash of the “orange marinade”. Enjoy them with a squeeze of lemon. V enjoyed the fish that we actually taught he might finish the whole thing on his own. The produce …

Sino Chai

November 2015 Update A good news! Our favorite restaurant has re-opened at Business Bay under the new name Taipei Dao Teahouse Restaurant & Café. Visit facebook page here. *** A sad update from Sino Chai After a glorious run of several years, Sino Chai will no longer be serving it’s customers after 31st January, 2014. We thank you all for being a part of this tremendous journey with us – all this would not have been possible without your amazing support and encouragement. *** Whenever we crave for a good dim sum, C and I always choose to eat at Sino Chai. It’s a plus that on weekends they have an eat-all-you-can dim sum. C opted to order Fried Rice with Sweet & Sour Chicken while V and I shared the dim sum. The server asked if we preferred any dim sum to be served to us and since we can’t decide I asked to try one of each dim sum available.   This Chives Pancake is one of V’s favorite. Crunchy but doesn’t feel oily.   Before I forget the eat …

Cloth Diaper

For the past week I’ve been reading about cloth diapers and boy was the information overwhelming. There’s like a secret language when you’re into cloth diapering. Here’s some of them that you would encounter: CD – cloth diaper MCD – modern cloth diaper AIO – All in One AI2 – All in Two or Hybrid Pocket Fitted   I have so far been eyeing the following diapers   *clicking the image will direct you the the brand’s site.   I’m still not sure whether the AIO or Pocket cloth diaper will work for us that’s why we have decided to try each kind available and work on our diaper stash when the baby arrives. As what other mom’s suggested online you will never know which one will work for you unless you’ve tried it yourself. I assumed that cloth diapers will be available in the UAE market but I was wrong and didn’t find one single store in the mall that have them. Luckily I found a lady who sells the Australian brand itti bitti and …

Dino Live

C got a good deal from Cobone for the Dino Live show. The tickets are valued at Dhs 169 and we only got ours for Dhs 49/each which includes a orange slush, popcorn, a photo-op, and Dhs 25 worth of voucher to buy some souvenirs. The show starts of with a 3D movie about a baby dinosaur who lost her mommy and some information on how they lived.  V kept on asking if the Dinosaurs will hurt us and asking “They are extinct right Mama?”  we kept reassuring him that what he will see are just giant dinosaur toys so kids will know how they look like. It was a good exhibit but I still prefer the first one that we saw back home at SM MOA when V was still 1 year old.
